Private sector employees have been granted an additional day off to celebrate the UAE National Day. This makes it a three-day weekend for workers.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation had earlier announced only 2nd and 3rd December as paid holidays to mark the national occasion. Meanwhile, the ministry last week announced 2nd, 3rd and 4th December (Saturday, Sunday and Monday as holidays for private sector workers. This was announced as an “update” on holidays.
Meanwhile, government sector workers will have the same holidays for National Day. The Human Resource authorities, including the federal body have given public sector workers a break from 2nd to 4th December. They are allowed to work remotely on the day prior to the holidays, on Friday, the 1st December. Fridays are usually half-a-day for most government workers as they have four-to-five-day work week.
Both government and private sector employees will report back to office on Tuesday, the 5th December.
A single holiday policy for both private and public sector workers will ensure that employees get equal number of breaks throughout the year.
The UAE marks the National Day (also called the UAE Union Day), on 2nd December annually to celebrate the unification of the Emirates in 1971. This year, the country turns 52.
