The Dubai Esports Festival 2022 (DEF 2022) was unveiled on 9th November by Omar Sultan Al Olama, the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications.
Held under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Media Council, the inaugural Dubai Esports Festival (DEF 2022), the 12-day festival is hosted by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), together with VSPN, a global pioneer in e-sports activities and solutions, and presenting partner du.
According to Al Olama, the UAE has already strengthened its position as the leading global destination for new concepts and a champion of innovation. It continues to draw global talents to analyze technology trends and opportunities to improve change and design a better future.
Al Olama further said that DEF 2022 would see maximum number of adult gamers gathering at one place this year, further highlighting UAE Dubai’s status as the most competitive gaming destination.
The event will bring together world’s biggest developers, gamers, artists and creatives, allowing e-sport fans to meet and engage with global gaming celebrities and industry pioneers.
The dignitaries toured the Dubai Exhibition Centre at Expo City, which is the venue of DEF 2022, which opened to public from 9th to 20th November.
The Festival kicked off with ‘Initiate Summit’, the two-day ground-breaking B2B knowledge and networking platform for esports and gaming industry professionals, developers and creatives. The two-day event held on 9th and 10th November, saw over 1000 registrations, with the highly successful first edition showcasing Dubai’s appetite for growth in esports.
The Initiate Summit reflects Dubai’s role in championing the creative industry, including esports, through several incentives for international talent and organisations in the emirate.
Further, the industry trends will be discussed, including mobile gaming, emerging technologies, consumer behaviour, investment opportunities, gamification and tournament organisation, among other current topics.
