The traffic fine discount initiative in Dubai, wherein a motorist could get up to 100 percent discount on penalties has been suspended henceforth, the police announced.
This was the second edition of this initiative, which began in February 2020. Col. Juma Salim Bin Suwaidan, the Director-General of the Traffic Department at Dubai Police confirmed that the discounts will no longer be given. However, the drivers who have already received them, can keep the reductions, and the discounted fines will not be reversed to the original amount.
This was a first-of-its-kind initiative launched in February 2019, which allowed drivers to obtain 25 percent discount on fines if they ensure zero violations for three months. Similarly, a 50 percent discount was offered for no violations for six months, and those with no violations for nine months were offered 75 percent off. Finally, a 100 percent discount was extended to drivers who could drive safely without any violations for a complete year.
In the first year, 557,430 motorists benefitted from the initiative and saved a total of Dh.546,970,930 in fines
